I found this comment on FFA, but unfortunately the post had closed before I could leave a comment so I'm doing it here because I have thoughts on the matter.
Frankly I agree, Snart had to die.
Mick in particular got a lot of character growth from Snart's death, but I think Mick was not the only one.
I remember watching Season 1 for the first time and thinking Snart's presence on the show was overshadowing all the other characters. I was okay with that since Snart is my favourite character but it was something I felt was indeed noticeable so if I, a Snart fan, noticed others must have as well. I don't get that feeling anymore on rewatches of the season because I now look at the characters with all the knowledge I currently have of them. The other characters have been given a chance to grow, which I don't think would have come as easily if Snart had still been there on the Waverider.
So yeah, Snart had to be removed from the show and instead of having him leave, killing him was the right call because just leaving wouldn't have impacted Mick the same way.
But I still want him back.
Scratch that, I think it would be good storytelling to bring him back.
Because now that all the characters have been able to grow, Snart would no longer overshadow them. I actually feel it would be the opposite. We've followed the journey of the rest of the Legends but not Snart. They would have at least three years of growth on him.
There's also the fact that a returned Snart wouldn't be the same Snart. Emotional and mental trauma from dying (even if he didn't actually die and was just trapped somewhere) and returning to life would be great. He wouldn't necessarily be the same cold character who (for the most part) kept his emotions, thoughts and feelings to himself. Seeing how he'd react to the other characters now would be quite interesting. Especially with Mick, because I have a feeling Snart never knew about Mick's desires to be an author or the fact he would adopt the Legends as his family.
So yeah, that's why Snart had to die and why they should still bring him back.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think killing off Snart was the best thing that could have happened to Mick's character. With that piece of him gone, he's been allowed to grow as a character and explore different avenues that he never would have while still being Snart's partner.
