As 2018 draws to a close, I'm going to take a moment to talk about one of my favourite shows that I watched during the year... Prison Break.
Prison Break was one of those shows that has been on my radar for years (since the first season of the Flash) but I never got around to watching it, partly because I was worried I wouldn't be able to watch it without seeing Snart and Mick instead of the other characters that Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell were supposed to be playing (turns out it wasn't a problem).
Then one day last January I decided enough was enough, I finally began watching it... and immediately fell in love.
My original plan was to gradually watch it because even when I love something it's still possible for me to get burned out on it if I watch too much of it at once. Season 1 took around a week to watch and I still wanted more. Sticking to the plan (I should have thrown away the plan) I decided to jump ahead to Season 5 since that only had 9 episodes. I thought to myself there was no way I could get burned out with only 9 extra episodes. And it was true, I still wanted more. But I was going to remain firm this time, I wasn't going to ruin such an awesome show due to my impatience.
A week went by, it was now February, and it was announced Prison Break was leaving Netflix at the beginning of March.
Fuck the plan. I was now on a time crunch.
I sped through Seasons 2 - 4, never tiring of it once. I even watched Season 5 again (not on Netflix) and watched some my favourite episodes from Season 1 before the show finally disappeared.
I lasted two weeks before buying the boxset.
In April the show was re-added to Netflix, it turns out they just removed it to add Season 5. My haste a few months earlier wasn't necessary. But I didn't regret it, it was fun disappearing into the Prison Break world each day. I've never been consumed by a show like it before.
I'm okay if the show ends with Season 5, it's a good place to end, although I really do hope that Season 6 does indeed get made (I figure we'll soon hear news if it's being filmed this upcoming year since Dom only has a limited amount of time off from Legends). And I can easily say that deciding to watch the show was one of the best decisions I made all year.
